Victor & Christy

First picture is him cuddling with me after a seizure. He can recognize before me that I’m getting anxious and when a seizure is coming. He warns me by vigorously licking my wrist and face. He isn’t much of a kisser and this is very intentional. Once I recognize what he is warning me of I do my relaxation techniques and he will either sit and stare into my soul or lay down on my lap. He picked up on my tells (a chemical scent) naturally after having him for only three months. Victor was a rescue that owners had given him up because he was attacked by another animal and had quite a bit of damage to his neck, nose and ear. The animal shelter nursed him back to health and he was taken cared for by a foster. I kept seeing him on their website, but not much was written about him.  I felt very depressed and useless because I was having seizures daily and could not function very well. I had to resign from my job and was crying everyday. A friend took me the the shelter to look for a small dog that wanted to cuddle. I knew I needed something that depended on me and me on him to keep me going and focused. I saw Victor who had a different name at the time and I immediately fell in love with his total laid back personality. He is a chihuahua mix and they said he is 5 years old but we think he is more 6 or 7. I changed his name to Victor because he had had victory over his attack and I knew I could too. I started training him right away and was shocked by how much he already knew. He naturally just caught on to things and now I get compliments all the time that they don’t even realize I have a dog with me because he is perfectly quiet and content to just be near me.

The last picture is of him starring into my soul. Lol. I get a little anxious at doctor offices so he reminds me to do my breathing and then he will settle on my lap.

I carry him in a sling a lot of the time because people will step on him and for him to recognize a seizure coming he needs to be near me. He has recognized 3 seizures lately and hasn’t been wrong yet. After getting him my seizures went down to maybe one to three a month. Both neurologist and counselor says they have seen a big difference in me.
